About Seventh-day Adventists

Adventists believe a Trinity of three persons--the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit--make up one God. They made salvation possible when Jesus, the Son, came to earth as a baby in Bethlehem and lived a sinless life in accordance with the Father's will. When Jesus was crucified for the sins of the people of the world and arose from the dead on the third day, victory was won for everyone. More >>

                        Shalom Church History
In April, 1992, Pastor R.C. Connor, Personal Ministries Director of the Greater New York Conference, along with members of six Seventh-day Adventist Churches, conducted an Evangelistic Tent Crusade between Baychester Avenue and Boston Road, in the Bronx. Before the commencement of the crusade, Pastor Angel Rodriquez of Yonkers SDA Church contacted Pastor Artemas Julien, a theologian student attending Andrews University in Michigan, who he knew had an interest in Evangelism.
Pastor Julien on instruction from Pastor Rodriguez contacted Sis. Williamson, a certified Bible worker for the greater New York Conference, he told her of his interest in being a member of the team. He also informed her of a van he’d recently purchased and suggested that it be used as a means of transportation during the crusade. Sis. Williamson relayed this information to Pastor Connor, who then consulted and discussed Pastor Julien’s request with Pastor Linford Martin, Pastor of Crossroads SDA Church. Both pastors agreed about the request.
In August 1992, at the completion of the crusade, more than one hundred and fifty precious people were gathered into the fold of the Lord. The new believers were then divided among the crusade’s presiding churches. Due to the overwhelming outcome of the crusade, the workers found it impossible to visit everyone listed for visitation. Pastor Julien and Sis. Williamson consulted Pastor Connor and requested that they conduct a following up meeting under the small tent. Pastor Connor met and discussed their request with the other officiating pastors and their request was granted. In spite of not making public announcements, the meetings were well attended and were very successful.
During the crusade, Pastor Julien and Sis. Williamson gave Bible studies to a Pastor of a Sunday-keeping church located at 767 E. 222nd Street and White Plains Road. The pastor, however, did not accept the message, but he gave then an eye opener; his church was moving to a bigger location. Pastor Julien and Sis. Williamson concluded that the new believers could worship in that building. After pulling down the tent, thirty-five believers began to worship in the building.
Sis. Williamson’s affiliation to the Crossroads SDA Church was instrumental in that church becoming the mother church to the young Shalom Church. The Crossroads agreed to pay Shalom’s first six month’s monthly rent of $350. Shalom’s membership grew and soon took over the responsibility of its monthly rent.
Sis. Ida Matson a Crossroads member became ill, she expressed one of her dying wishes was that some of her monies be given to the Church. Sis. Williamson and Pastor Julien invited the members of Shalom to hold a special prayer meeting, to petition on Sis. Matson’s behalf, and also for funds to purchase the building Shalom they were now worshipping in which was up for sale. Sis. Matson also regained her strength.
During one of her many discussion with Sis. Matson, Sis. Williamson mentioned the possibilities of purchasing the building and the difficulties that they would encounter, due to lack of funds. Sis. Matson decided to provide financial assistance and donated over seventy thousand dollars ($70,000.00) to the cause. However, Shalom was still unable to make the purchase.
On November 5th, 1994 at 4:30 p.m. Shalom Seventh-Day Adventist Church was inaugurated into the Greater New York Conference. Members and visitors from all walks of life were there to witness this stupendous occasion.
The opening song was #348 “The Church has one Foundation, tis Jesus Christ her Lord”. Pastor Maynard Reid read Psalm 111, followed by prayer by Elder Hayward. Elder Griffin, then President of the Conference led the delegation to and presided over the registration of the eighty- five chartered members.
Though there were periods of struggles God remained faithful to His people. Today, because of the determination, leadership skills, and perseverance of young man, Pastor Julien, and a dedicated Bible worker, Sis Williamson, Shalom Seventh-Day Adventist Church is continuing to give God the praise and the glory for all His wondrous works.
After we were organized, God did not leave us without a place of worship for long. In 1995, we were able to purchase the building at 3323 White Plains Road, here in the Bronx, our present place of worship.
The years have seen changes in pastoral leadership:
Dr. Artemas Julien pioneered the way in 1992- 1995.
                        Pastor Orette Mitchell- 1995- 1998.
                        Pastor Roy Bowen- 1998-2001.
                        Pastor Conrad White- 2001-2007.
                        Dr. Steve D. Cassimy- 2007-present.
After the departure of most charter members, those who remain realized that there was still a lot of work to do on the building as well as in our community. Much has been done to make it an admirable place of worship for all.
Under the leadership of Pastors Mitchell and Brown, and the supports of the members both financially and with physical labor much of the refurbishing was done. Pastor White came on the scene with a passion for souls. As a result many were brought to the Lord in evangelistic efforts held each year, bringing our membership over the 200th mark.
Presently, they church have officially burnt its mortgage officially. The final payment was made on February 15th, 2008, a full year before the last payment was due. Truly the church say, “To God be the glory, great things He has done.”

Currently, with our pastor, Dr. Steve D. Cassimy, we have embarked on a fundraising drive, through pledges to bring our building up to requirement of the law. But most importantly with the help of God, to assist us up spiritually in preparation for the work left to be done in our community and the world for our Lord’s soon coming.   We would be happy to have you join us in worship or at one of the church events listed on our calendar.
